DOE Names New Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy
The Department of Energy has announced the selection of Dr. Victor K. Der as the new Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy. Dr. Der will be responsible for office operations and, in support of the Assistant Secretary, he will manage the oversight of Fossil Energy's Research and Development program and the U.S. Petroleum Reserves.

Geothermal Electricity Holds Promise for Older Oil Fields
The Office of Fossil Energy's Rocky Mountain Oilfield Testing Center and Ormat Technologies Inc., of Reno, Nev., announced the first successful generation of electricity using geothermal hot water from a producing oil well. The power is used in oil field operations. Read More >

Fossil fuels supply 85% of the nation's energy, and we are working on such priority projects as pollution-free coal plants, more productive oil and gas fields, and the continuing readiness of federal emergency oil stockpiles.
